For more than 42 seasons, we have believed haunted attractions should never stand still.
Every year, our team asks the same question: How do we create something guests have never experienced before? Sometimes that means new characters. Sometimes it means new technology. And sometimes it means taking on the biggest construction project in our history.
This year at Kersey Valley Spookywoods, we are doing all three.
A Two Year Construction Project
Construction began in the spring of 2026 on what will be a two year project and the largest permanent structure we have ever attempted.
This is not a temporary facade or a seasonal set. It is a massive, permanent building requiring real excavation, heavy equipment, steel, concrete, and years of careful construction. Every wall, every foundation, and every beam is being built to last.
Alongside the structure, we are also building a six acre lake that will serve as a dramatic reflection pond. The water will mirror the building and its seasonal lighting, creating an unforgettable view from the highway and adding another layer of atmosphere to the property year round.
Location. Location. Location.
In business, those three words have always mattered, and they played a major role in where we chose to build. The new structure sits directly along the roadfront of Interstate 74 and is clearly visible from Interstate 85, making it one of the most prominent features on our property.
Just as importantly, the building is equipped with intelligent architectural lighting that allows us to transform its appearance throughout the year. With the touch of a button, it can celebrate Halloween, Christmas, patriotic holidays, and other seasonal events, creating a highly visible landmark for motorists traveling the corridor.
Together, the structure, intelligent lighting, and six acre reflection pond create more than a haunted attraction. They create a year round marketing investment that keeps Kersey Valley in front of the public during every season of the year.
While guests will begin seeing pieces of this vision come to life, the project itself is part of a much larger long term investment in the future of Spookywoods. We believe haunted attractions deserve the same level of craftsmanship and permanence found in the world’s best themed entertainment.
Sometimes the best scares begin long before opening night.
Reinventing the Midway Experience
One of our biggest goals for 2026 was simple: make waiting part of the entertainment.
Instead of standing in traditional switchback lines, guests will now spend their time inside an expanded Midway designed to be an attraction all its own.
Our brand new three story structure serves as a DJ tower, concession destination, lighting control center, and live streaming studio. Throughout the evening, the Midway comes alive with roaming characters, live entertainment, music, interactive moments, food, drinks, and plenty of places to relax before entering the haunt.
It is a completely different philosophy. Rather than waiting in line, guests are already part of the show.
Virtual Queue Technology Comes to Spookywoods
Several years ago, we introduced virtual queues for our Kersey Valley Christmas train experience aboard the Kersey Valley Express. The response from guests was overwhelmingly positive.
Families could explore, shop, eat, and enjoy the atmosphere instead of standing in line. That success inspired us to bring the same technology to Spookywoods.
Guests simply join the virtual queue and receive notifications when it is time to enter. While they wait, they can enjoy everything happening in the Midway instead of watching the backs of hundreds of people.
It creates a better experience for everyone and a much more relaxed, social atmosphere.
Welcome to Club Spooky Courtyard
At the heart of this new guest experience is Club Spooky Courtyard, our completely reimagined Midway gathering space.
More than just a place to wait, Club Spooky Courtyard is where the night begins. Guests can relax with friends, enjoy seasonal food and beverages, encounter roaming monsters, watch live entertainment, and soak in the Halloween atmosphere while waiting for their virtual queue notification.
Anchored by our new three story DJ tower and live streaming studio, the Courtyard transforms what was once a line into an immersive Halloween destination filled with music, energy, and unexpected encounters.
By the time a group enters the haunted attraction, the experience has already begun.
Always Looking Forward
After more than four decades, we are proud of everything Spookywoods has become. But we are even more excited about where it is going.
The 2026 season represents another step forward in our commitment to creating experiences guests cannot find anywhere else. Bigger construction. Better guest flow. More entertainment. More immersion. More reasons to spend the evening with us.
At Kersey Valley Spookywoods, we are not just building haunted attractions. We are building the future of Halloween entertainment.
We cannot wait to welcome you this fall.
