AMERICA HAUNTS: OUTDOOR ATTRACTIONS OFFER SCARY FAMILY FUN

Elaborate haunted attractions under Autumn skies have become part of Halloween tradition

Outdoor haunted activities that scare and thrill the entire family are part of the anticipated Halloween tradition that is loved by millions nationwide every October. Halloween, trailing only behind Christmas as the largest grossing holiday, grows bigger each year to meet the cravings of monster-hungry Americans. Outdoor haunted attractions under the October moon are booming in popularity.

“Halloween is so exciting because of high-tech creations and multi-million dollar haunted attractions that are equally terrifying whether they are located indoors or under the dark autumn skies,” said Amber Arnett-Bequeaith of America Haunts, the nation’s most elite haunted attractions association. “Halloween is about the tradition of being with your family and friends and holding on to one another for dear life on scary excursions at haunted farms, hayrides, corn mazes and other haunts all while enjoying fall-themed treats. This is what keeps Halloween such a fun part of our culture.”

From the spirits that lurk inside endless corn mazes to the chainsaw-wielding madmen chasing the weakest victims riding on haunted hayrides, outdoor haunted attractions have evolved into massive entertainment venues with Hollywood style sets and terrifying themes.

America Haunts is the largest group of major haunted attractions in the nation with 28 haunts in 20 different markets featuring entertainment geared for the older audiences as well as the entire family. Although temperatures are mild this year nationwide to appeal to all, Bequeaith said scare seekers will come out during any kinds of stormy weather.

“October and early November are typically not that cold anywhere nationwide and even so, wearing a sweater or light jacket and cuddling up with loved ones on a hayride, while a zombie chases behind is enough warm up anyone’s blood,” she said. “Many events end with bonfires, cider and donuts and are becoming part of the Halloween fabric in America.”

The following outdoor haunted attractions offer family activities including hayrides, corn mazes, farms, fall treats, and more to give visitors an all-encompassing experience of the classic Halloween thrill:

Bates Motel, Glenn Mills, PA – A haunted motel, corn maze and hayride. The Bates Motel brings heightened awareness to visitors as they are surrounded with realistic sets and specialized creepy actors. The 25-minute terrifying Haunted Hayride goes through an insane asylum, past giant life-like monsters and full scale sets including a 200-foot cave where there is no telling what awaits. Try not to get lost in the Haunted Corn Maze where darkness lurks behind every corner. www.Thebatesmotel.com

Headless Horseman, Ulster Park, NY – Located in the Historic Haunted Hudson Valley, visitors can experience the mile-long hayride with monsters jumping out, testing the courage of even the bravest souls. The biggest challenge is surviving the angry headless horseman who roams the large 250-year-old farm and leaves visitors uneasy, yet somehow longing to return despite the fear that is instilled in their hearts forever. www.Headlesshorseman.com

Spookywoods, Archdale, NC – Enjoy the classics in Spookywoods’ Wax Works Museum where Frankenstein and Wolf Man are just a few of the monsters under a gypsy witch’s spell. Then go into the dark woods where witches are being burned at the stake. Visitors might also find themselves outside trapped in a confusing corn maze where a cursed soul stalks for innocent prey. Can you escape the darkness? www.spookywoods.com

Fear Farm, Phoenix – A ten-acre corn maze with five massive haunted houses on 30 sprawling acres outside of the city brings a new level of terror to anyone daring to enter. Enjoy this frightening tradition with the entire family together on the haunted hayride that takes visitors through a deep forest, or try to escape the winding corn maze where all kinds of demented spirits are roaming free and trying to get at the weakest link. www.fearfarm.com

Spookyworld, Litchfield, NH – Feel the perspiration build up! The most intense and realistic fears are toyed with on the mile-long Haunted Hayride at Spookyworld. Find dismembered bodies in an experiment gone wrong and get stuck in a web full of spiders on this journey. Visit the other haunted attractions like Bingham Manor and the Colony in the woods on Merrimack River, but beware, these are not for the faint of heart. www.spookyworld.com

AMERICA HAUNTS USES TECHNOLOGICAL INNOVATIONS AND CREATIVITY TO BRING ADVANCE SCARES NATIONWIDE

Animatronics, motion sensors and virtual reality
lead the way in haunted attraction evolution

Step inside one of America Haunts 28 haunted attractions from coast to coast and enter into another dimension, filled with one’s deepest nightmares come to life, with the help of innovative technology. Thousands of animatronics make up these elite haunted attractions that are imagined and created by some of the industry’s most cutting-edge engineers and designers looking to terrify the masses this Halloween season.

Inside the major haunted attractions across the nation, gone are the days from decades’ past when pigs’ heads from slaughterhouses and legally purchased human parts are used as props. Today’s Hollywood-style sets at haunted houses impress not only thrill-seekers, but tech-savvy guests as well.

“We work year-round brainstorming and dreaming up truly horrific creatures and set designs to take people out of everyday life and into a new world that is both terrifying and exciting,” said Ben Armstrong of America Haunts, the organization that represents the 28 biggest and most elaborate haunted attractions in the country. “The moment you walk into one of our haunted houses your every movement is detected and the technology in the haunts is programmed down to the millisecond how to respond, like walls shifting and monsters swooping down at just the right moment. It all adds to the out-of-body experience we want everyone to have.”

Millions of dollars go into creating realistic sets, many having hundreds of different animatronics that resemble menacing creatures and bloodcurdling monsters, each with their own elaborate electronic control system. Lighting, sound, 3-D features and virtual reality also play a role in the technological evolution of the largest and most elaborate haunted attractions.

“Going to a Halloween convention and buying a scary prop that is thrown in a corner is not enough for America Haunts. It is not how we operate,” Armstrong said. “If an animatronic is purchased, it is often altered drastically and our engineers may spend up to a year rebuilding it, so that it fits perfectly into the environment. The haunted attractions that truly frighten the heck out of people are done so when artistry and progressive engineering are combined. It is an art form that takes years to master and we absolutely love it.”

America Haunts is the oldest group of haunted attractions with over 28 independently owned and operated haunted houses in 20 different markets. The organization provides the most advanced sets and Hollywood-quality effects that scare over a million thrill-seekers each season.

The following America Haunts Attractions are leading the way in high-tech haunted houses, setting the bar for the most horrific, out-of-body experience people seek this season:

Netherworld Haunted House, Atlanta – With over 300 different animatronics worked on year-round this haunt takes high-tech to the next level. Each animatronic is programed with its own electronic “brain” and senses visitor’s every movement to ensure the most surprising, blood-curdling experience. Watch out for the giant monster that soars over visitors’ heads trying to capture souls with one of its ten arms reaching down. www.fearworld.com

13th Floor, Chicago – Home of the first “smart” haunted house in Chicago, this haunt will take visitors to another dimension with the virtual reality headset. Along with the traditional haunted attraction scenery that offers cutting edge technology and advanced sets, visitors can opt to take the challenge of the untethered, 360-degree walk-through that uses high-definition video to create the most terrifyingly realistic experience possible. www.13thfloorchicago.com

House of Torment, Austin – Combining both futuristic technology and the most realistic make-up and costume design, this attraction dishes up a horrifying trip into the worst of nightmares. From zombies running up at full speed to Vampire Lord’s slowly approaching while staring straight into the eyes of patrons, the House of Torment dishes up a terrifying experience. www.houseoftorment.com

13th Floor, Denver – Monsters, unnatural creatures and humans come alive when they should have stayed dead in this high-tech haunt. Around every corner visitors will find frightening animatronics that sensor their location and awaken in a jolt when their victims are just close enough. With specialized actors and unique performances this haunt packs a punch for those looking for something high in the fear factor. www.13thfloorhauntedhouse.com

Erebus, Pontiac, Mich. – The dead walk at this haunted attraction. With hundreds of animatronics and life-like make-up and costumes visitors are terrified by zombies roaming the haunt along with frightening creatures that watch and follow every step just waiting to strike. Creepy sound fills the attraction and pulsing light confuses the senses in one of the most technologically advanced haunts in the country. www.hauntedpontiac.com

Nightmare on 13th, Salt Lake City – Yearly transitions and updates keep this haunt one of the most cutting-edge high-tech attractions. Gruesome monster holograms wielding axes rush towards visitors and hologram ghosts pop up to scare even the most stoic adults. The realistic set designs alongside horrifying actors and unsurpassed animatronics make this a must-see haunt. www.nightmareon13th.com

Bennett’s Curse, Baltimore – See some of the largest monsters at this chillingly realistic haunted house that incorporates all the senses. Themed sets include precise detail in costumes, scenery, music, lighting and actors to offer a trip into hell itself. The impressive technology in this haunt helps create such a realistic experience that it is currently being used to film a horror movie and has very limited public access. www.bennettscurse.com

America Haunts Exposes List of Historically Haunted Attractions with Paranormal Activity

Halloween attractions built on haunted grounds intensify fears for those who dare

Detroit, Oct. 14, 2016 — Step inside one of the 28 terrifying America Haunts attractions across the country and find stunning set designs featuring the latest technology, Hollywood-quality make-up, costumes and creatures. To increase the terror level, the association’s elite haunted attractions have revealed something about several of its historic attractions: real paranormal activity.

“Our historic haunts have the ability to frighten even the most cynical adults, as some are even verified as truly haunted by paranormal experts,” said Amber Arnett-Bequeaith, of America Haunts, the organization that houses the best Halloween attractions in the country. “Paranormal activity is intriguing to so many, and what better way to experience it than inside a dark historical building with ghostly pasts.”

Whether in a 100 year-old building with trapped souls from a past life or in a location where the tortured lives of many still seek revenge, the following haunts have a history that keep the dead lurking:

The Dent Schoolhouse – Once a school in Cincinnati this haunted attraction is believed to house the souls of dozens of children who went missing, only to be found years later rotting in the school’s basement. It is rumored the janitor killed them all, but he was never found. It is believed he is still lurking the hallways.

Nightmare on the Bayou – Located near Houston’s oldest graveyard, employees and guests alike have reported numerous ghost sightings and frequent paranormal activity. This indoor/outdoor haunt guides you through hell and back with the, not always friendly, spirits following close behind.

Cutting Edge – This haunt resides in an old abandoned meat packing plant in Fort Worth dubbed, “Hell’s Half Acre.” The meat packing equipment is still in use today – as a two-story human processing area. Originally built in 1908, and later abandoned, visitors today continue to report eerie occurrences.

13th Floor San Antonio – Is believed to be haunted by a group of school children killed while riding in a school bus that was hit by an oncoming train near the 13th floor attraction in San Antonio. The haunt takes visitors into a 107-year-old basement to navigate through followed by a haunted graveyard. If thrill-seekers make it that far, ride an elevator up to the 13th floor where there is no telling what kind of horrors await.

The Beast – Located in Kansas City, MO, since its existence there have been dozens of employees that don’t return to work at The Beast due to the ghosts that live within the building. They say it’s a heavy weight on their chest, and becomes at points even too hard to breathe. All employees describe the experiences in the exact same rooms!

13th Gate – Baton Rouge dares those brave enough to go through each of the 13 themed gates of this intricate 40,000 sq. ft. haunt. Once home to a slave brick foundry and later a slaughterhouse this haunt lies within a 150-year-old building where the walls have their secrets.

The Haunted Hotel – This 130-year-old haunted hotel is in San Diego’s Gaslamp District and will take visitors deep inside the maze of hallways, seeping with paranormal activity. Rooms are themed with chainsaw wielding clowns, zombies and ghouls popping out of walls.

“The supernatural presence and urban historical locations adds to the allure of our haunted attractions,” said Arnett-Bequeaith. “We recommend people test their own courage and see for themselves for proof that these attractions are truly haunted.”

America Haunts Teams up with Vet Tix to Donate $1 Million Worth of Tickets to Benefit Veterans During Halloween Season!

DETROIT — September 18, 2015 — Now through Nov. 1, 2015, America Haunts attractions will provide $1 million in free tickets for admission to active duty service men and women in all five branches of the military, honorably discharged veterans and the families of those killed in action. The tickets are available through Vet Tix, a national nonprofit organization.

America Haunts, an association of more than 30 elite haunted attractions throughout the United States. Individual America Haunts members have participated with Vet Tix in previous years, but this is the first year the entire association is participating.

“Our servicemen and women sign on to serve their country, often sacrificing the opportunity to take part in beloved holiday traditions like celebrating Halloween with their families. We are honored to have the opportunity to thank them in some small way,” said Amber Arnett-Bequeaith, vice president of America Haunts.

CEO Mike Focareto, a Navy veteran, launched Vet Tix in 2008. The idea for Vet Tix was born when Focareto was at the Super Bowl XLII game in Glendale, Arizona.

“He learned that the members of the Honor Guard were not actually invited to the game,” said Vet Tix Chief Community Officer Brandi Shannon. “At the same time, he sat next to an empty seat. He thought, ‘Wouldn’t it be nice if one of our veterans could be sitting here enjoying the game?’”

In the past 12 months, Vet Tix has given away approximately 500,000 tickets to events around the country. The organization works with venues to distribute unused tickets to over 275,000 military members and veterans who would like to use them. Events include those at very small venues all the way up to professional sporting events and top-selling concerts. They also help veterans and their families attend events they otherwise could not with the “Hero’s Wish” program, where veterans and active duty personnel and their families can post requests for events and donors can provide tickets or money toward the purchase of tickets to events.

To receive the tickets, veterans and members of the military and their families can visit www.vettix.org to create a free account and request tickets.
